Ben Braithwaite– Percussion
Ben Braithwaite has taught Percussion at McClelland College since 2009. He graduated from the ANU school of music in 2004 with first class honors on jazz drums. He completed his honors project on Ghanaian rhythmic influences on modern jazz, specifically looking at the drumming of Ghanaian master drummer Mustapha Tettey Addy and jazz great Ed Blackwell.
Ben has travelled and performed professionally in a broad range of styles and has studied overseas with great drummers such as Joe Morello and Chad Wackerman. Since moving to Melbourne in 2009 Ben has performed with locally with groups such as Reflejos, Jelly Tub Rollers, Sourdough, Mechanical Pterodactyl, 4/19thPrince of Wales Light Horse Regiment and The MCB Phoenix project led by Scott Tinkler.
Ben is an energetic teacher and enjoys teaching students that percussion is more than just belting things! He believes that every student playing percussion must be able to play all percussion instruments during the course of their lessons.
